THE TROPICS RESIDENT OF THE MONTH

Dr Jing Wang

July 2007

Meet our neighbor Dr Jing Wang who moved into the Tropics in November 2006 From Oakland, California.

Born in China 72 years ago, Dr Wang joined the Chinese army at the age of fourteen. She became a surgeon at age 17. In her professional career , Dr Wang has practiced surgery, acupuncture and acupressure. She has also taught, published books and even has a website on exercise programs.

Dr Wang married and had three children. She has as son and daughter living in the US and another son in China. Her first husband died of a heart attack at the age of fifty three, in his office, at the university.

Following her husband's death, Dr Wang became ill and had problems with her eye muscles. When she opened her eye, it made her ill. She managed to fix the problems by developing an exercise program for herself. She quit surgery and started researching and developing other exercises for the body, nerves, muscles and internal organs. She has written two books, taught seniors at the university and even had a TV show in China instructing students on a variety of exercises that she has researched and developed.

She remarried two years after her first husband's death and came to the US nine years later.

Her first trip was with her daughter and she spent time in Little Rock Arkansas and in Los Angeles. The second trip, she settled in Oakland. She stayed in with friends who had an acupressure business. Since she did not have a strong command of the English language, Dr Wang could not get a license to practice her surgical or acupuncture skills. She did, however get a license to practice acupressure and has been doing that along with teaching exercises for the last eleven years.

If Dr Wang had lots of money, her greatest wish would be to be able to train people to learn all the skills she has learned in a lifetime of working on various health issues.

As it is, she would like to publish more articles in the Breeze to help us with exercises that improve our health. She wants to help people discover how to recognize the early signs of diseases in their bodies.

She also wants to teach people how to exercise, how to improve their internal systems and the whole body to prevent and reduce disease, and teach people how to take care of their own health problems.

In addition to publishing exercise articles in the Breeze and teaching us how to fix our muscle aches and pains, Dr Wang loves to work in her garden. She has lots of tomatoes and several fruit trees as well as some lovely flowers.

Welcome a good neighbor to our park.
