TROPICS RESIDENT OF THE
MONTH Dana's family moved from Arizona to the
Temescal District of Oakland where they bought a house at 45th and Webster.
Her mother lived in that home until she passed away. Her dad had lost a leg
while at work for the Santa Fe Railroad. He was awarded a lifetime job with
that company. He supported his family during the depression years on eleven
dollars a week. Soon after Larry and Dana's daughter was born they moved to San Lorenzo. A few years later they adopted Steve. There are two grandchildren, Julie and Matt. Dana attended and graduated from Fairmont Nursing School. Soon after her graduation, she began nursing at Doctor's Hospital in the field of hospice. She was a member of Vesper Hospice in San Leandro for about fifteen years. With that organization she did both hospice care and bereavement. At he same time she and Larry were managing a catholic retreat center at Holy Redeemer in Oakland. They did this until 1988. Three years later they moved to the Tropics. Larry began working in Redwood City. Dana considers life in the Tropics as a learning experience. She is looking forward to the next twelve years. She has many ideas. Dana has been involved with music and believes "Music heals the heart." In 1984 Dana heard the Little Theatre in
Hayward was holding auditions for the show, Camelot. She went for an
audition and was chosen for the chorus. She has appeared in about ten
"Broadway" style performances. Recently she sang in the chorus of
that group in what has become The Douglas Morrison Theater in a show titled
"From Mozart to Motown." The Dana with her many interests including swimming in the pool, and going with me on a recent, enjoyable trip to San Francisco with the Ladies Club finds that much of her life today centers around her great grandson, Skyler. He is adorable and she loves being around him. Your Reporter |
